About Jan Venter
A world-leading ophthalmic surgeon who is renowned for his experience in corrective eye surgery procedures, Mr Venter has performed over 100,000 treatments during his career including LASIK and LASEK laser eye surgery, cataract surgery, intraocular contact lens surgery and refractive lens exchange surgery.
Mr Venter is the UK Emeritus Medical Director and a member of the Optical Express International Medical Advisory Board. On an annual basis, he attends the IMAB Conferences where he sits on a panel along with some of the world's most eminent Refractive Surgeons.
Born and educated in South Africa, he qualified from Pretoria University in 1973. In the following years he progressed to become Professor and Head of the Ophthalmology Department at the University of Stellenbosch.
Truly a pioneer in refractive surgery, 1993 saw Dr Venter introduce excimer laser and ambulatory cataract surgery into South Africa, making procedures available to the wider public there for the first time.
Mr Venter has published and presented over 100 academic papers and has made presentations about refractive surgery in seminars across the UK, South Africa and throughout the world. he has the Royal College of Ophthalmologists Certificate in Refractive Surgery.
Mr Venter carries out lens replacement surgery in the London White City, Southampton, Birmingham and Bristol Optical Express clinics.
