CONSULTANT OPHTHALMOLOGIST
Mr Avadhanam is a highly accomplished consultant ophthalmologist with specialist expertise in corneal surgery, refractive surgery and complex cataract procedures. He brings exceptional depth of knowledge to his practice, underpinned by an outstanding academic record and an internationally recognised research career.
Having completed his postgraduate training in ophthalmology in India, Mr Avadhanam pursued further specialist training across some of the UK’s leading eye centres, including Sussex Eye Hospital, Nottingham University Hospital and the University Hospital of Cardiff and Wales. He subsequently held consultant positions at Bristol Eye Hospital, where he served as lead for the eye emergency department, and at Newmedica, Bristol.
Mr Avadhanam holds the Certificate in Laser and Refractive Surgery (CertLRS) and has undertaken extensive hands-on refractive surgery training, including dedicated LASIK and SMILE courses in the UK and practical training in Cairo, equipping him with the skills to offer patients the very latest in vision correction technology.
His dedication to advancing the science of ophthalmology is reflected in an exceptional publication record, with over 25 peer-reviewed papers in leading international journals including Ophthalmology, the British Journal of Ophthalmology and Cornea. He has presented his research at major international congresses across Europe, Asia and North America, and has been recognised with a Best Paper award at Eucornea in Barcelona.
Mr Avadhanam is passionate about education and has organised and conducted cornea courses, wet lab sessions and regional postgraduate teaching programmes throughout his career. His commitment to his patients and his profession is evident in everything he does.
