Mrs Susanna Boytha

Mrs Susanna Boytha is an experienced Consultant Ophthalmologist who has performed in excess of 35,000 LASIK and LASEK procedures. Gaining two Doctor of Medicine (MD) degrees from leading institutions Semmelweis University of General Medicine and the University of Medicine and Surgery of Genoa, she went on to specialise in ophthalmology and received her Diploma of Ophthalmology in 1990. Mrs Boytha has been performing laser eye surgery procedures since 2003 providing her with a wealth of experience in the field of laser vision correction.

Moving to the UK in 1998, Mrs Boytha took on a fellowship in Cornea and Cataract Surgery at the Queen Victoria Hospital in East Grinstead, West Sussex. She went on to become a Member of the Royal College of Ophthalmologists (MRCOphth) in 2001 and obtained her Certificate of Completion of Training (CCT) and her Certificate of Laser Refractive Surgery in 2005 and 2008 respectively.

Mrs Boytha has gained considered knowledge working for the NHS, holding various positions in hospitals across the UK. She was active as a Specialist in Ophthalmology at Hairmyres Hospital and Wishaw General Hospital in Lanarkshire before taking on her current post of Consultant Ophthalmologist at Dumfries and Galloway Royal Infirmary in 2015, where she serves as the Clinical Lead and Lead Clinician of the Medical Retina Service. Mrs Boytha is a Scottish Quality and Safety Fellow and has designed and led several Service Development Projects in her consultant position.

Over the course of her career, Mrs Boytha has been involved in the teaching of numerous medical students, junior ophthalmologists, ophthalmic nurses and optometrists through the delivery of clinics, lectures, and formal talks. She attends regular EURETINA, ESCRS and SOC meetings in order to stay on top of the latest developments in ophthalmology and refractive surgery.
