CONSULTANT OPHTHALMOLOGIST
Mr Yasser Abdullah is a highly experienced Consultant Ophthalmologist specialising in cataract surgery, lens replacement surgery and medical retina. He is board-certified in Ophthalmology and has extensive experience managing a broad range of ophthalmic conditions, alongside performing advanced vision correction and cataract procedures.
Mr Abdullah completed the prestigious Master of Surgery (ChM) in Clinical Ophthalmology at the University of Edinburgh, an advanced postgraduate qualification designed to develop expertise in modern ophthalmic practice, research and surgical innovation.
Since 2020, he has worked within the Barking, Havering and Redbridge University Hospitals NHS Trust, where he serves as a Specialty Doctor, Clinical Informatics Lead and Clinical Safety Officer. His roles reflect a strong commitment not only to delivering outstanding patient care but also to advancing healthcare quality, patient safety and digital innovation within ophthalmology.
Mr Abdullah ‘s ophthalmic career began in 2004 at the Specialized Surgical Hospital, Medical City, Baghdad, where he underwent comprehensive training across multiple ophthalmic subspecialties. During this period, he gained valuable experience in the diagnosis and management of cataract, glaucoma, corneal disease, oculoplastics, strabismus and lacrimal disorders, as well as a wide range of ophthalmic surgical procedures.
He has a particular interest in cataract and refractive surgery and is highly experienced in modern vision correction techniques, including lens replacement surgery and laser eye surgery. His academic interests include emerging technologies in ophthalmology, and during his Master’s degree he undertook research into the application of artificial intelligence and robotics in cataract surgery, exploring future innovations in phacoemulsification technology.
