Laser Eye SurgeryAugust 2023
Edinburgh based firefighter Harry was a successful applicant of the Optical Express ‘Thanks a Million’ campaign – receiving free Lasik iDesign to correct his vision. Following the suggestion from his colleague Sarah, another lucky recipient of the “life changing” treatment, Harry was “over the moon” to be chosen.
“I couldn’t fault it, start to finish”, he tells us following his procedure.
From smoky, dusty working environments, to sandy beaches, to a night in watching TV – he was tired of having to fumble about for glasses and wearing contacts that were “tricky” and “sore” to do the things he wanted to do.
When asked about his experience in our Southampton clinic, he felt he was in “safe hands” throughout. He compliments the in-depth testing, “impressive technology” and “spotless” facilities that made him feel at ease. A cup of tea on arrival didn’t hurt either.
Following the recommended guidance, Harry followed his procedure with a good sleep. Whilst feeling a bit tired from his surgery, he was grateful to be able to open his window and see the world without the morning rummage for his glasses.
To others considering the procedure, Harry says “there’s no harm in coming in for the consultation” and would recommend it to anyone. As well as fighting fires and saving lives, Harry will be able to enjoy his hobbies of golf and football without the inconvenience of poor vision.
It is the second time that Optical Express has chosen to thank NHS and Emergency Service workers in this way. In 2017, they launched their first ‘Thanks a Million’ campaign which saw them give away £1 million worth of free laser eye surgery. Over the course of the two campaigns more than £2 million worth of surgery will improve the everyday lives of NHS and Emergency Service workers.
