How does cataract surgery work?

Cataracts are small, cloudy patches which form on your eye’s lens, making your vision blurry. The great news is, they can be treated completely by undergoing cataract surgery at Optical Express. It’s a quick and straightforward procedure which aims to achieve crystal clear sight.

Cataract surgery is the most common operation performed in the UK and Optical Express is second only to the NHS in how many of the treatments it carries out each year.

Often held back by long waiting times before surgery on each eye, patients can benefit from no extensive waits and after one eye is treated, the other can be done the very next day.

The treatment is carried out by replacing the damaged natural lens in your eye with a premium synthetic lens, resulting in sharp vision once again. The new synthetic lens corrects vision problems such as long-sightedness, short-sightedness, astigmatism, and presbyopia. If required, it can be specially designed so that it corrects both near and distance vision. This means that afterwards, our patients enjoy the added benefit of perfect vision without the need for their glasses and/or contact lenses.

Optical Express offers free cataract surgery consultations where you will be able to speak with one of our expert optometrists, as well as undergo a thorough assessment of your eyes. It’s the best way to determine if cataract surgery is the right option for you.
