Daniel Youde, aged 24 from Kennington, London works as a Police Community Support Officer for London Transport and is one of the many deserving emergency service workers who has been given the gift of 20|20 vision thanks to free laser eye surgery from eye care experts Optical Express, as part of its Thanks a Million campaign.
For 10 years, Daniel wore glasses every day and from the moment he started his job he felt his glasses made him a target where a confrontation may lead to his glasses being knocked off his head, rendering him visually impaired.
During his leisure time away from the stresses of work, Daniel enjoys working out in the gym but has been unable to work out to his potential due to his glasses steaming up every time he exercised on the machines. Another way Daniel would keep fit would be to play sports but without glasses, his vision would be blurry, and it would be difficult for him to enjoy games like rugby, all key in letting off steam after arduous days on The Underground.
Commenting on his new 20/20 vision, Daniel said: “Thanks to Optical Express and its Thanks a Million initiative, I am now able to go to work feeling much more confident in dealing with any situation that occurs.
“I felt before surgery that my glasses were holding me back and I was worried about how I would cope without them. Now I can regularly attend the gym as I’m no longer concerned about damaging my glasses.”
