Megan, a Police Constable in the Staffordshire Police was one of many lucky patients to receive free laser eye surgery as part of our ‘Thanks a Million’ campaign.

Megan has worn contact lenses since the age of 14, always having to have an aid to be able to see as she felt self conscious wearing glasses.

As a police constable, Megan has experienced her contact lenses becoming dry and even a few times "they've popped out". This has hindered her professionally and is very dangerous during fast response driving.

Megan had always wanted laser eye surgery but as a single mum she could never afford it. She applied for the Thanks a Million campaign hoping to be successful and that her vision was suitable for the vision correction surgery.

In August 2023. Megan had LASIK laser eye surgery in our Birmingham clinic undertaken by Mr Sajjad Mughal, a highly accomplished surgeon with a career spanning more than 20 years. 

Twenty four hours after her surgery, instead of frantically looking for her glasses to see, Megan could enjoy the sunrise out the back of her house, taking in the breath-taking view without any visual aid. She commented that she could "see all the clouds and all the details of everything".

Megan is a very active person, and enjoys paddle boarding, hiking, anything outdoors and with her new visual freedom she is looking forward to going swimming sea and doing some scuba diving. She said, "having laser eye surgery will really change everything for me".  

Optical Express first launched the ‘Thanks a Million’ campaign in 2017 and donated £1 million worth of free laser eye surgery to NHS and Emergency Service workers. The campaign since relaunched in 2023 and again in 2025 with Optical Express donating another £2 million worth of laser eye surgery. It’s our way of saying a big thank you to the NHS and Emergency Service workers for the great work that they do.
