Vinnie Jones: A vision correction surgery story

Patient Spotlight

British actor, presenter and former professional footballer Vinnie Jones underwent vision correction surgery at our London clinic in October 2025.

Vinnie Jones’ career

Vinnie played professionally for teams including Leeds United, Sheffield United, Chelsea and more.

He then went onto become an actor, his first role being ‘Big Chris’ in the 1998 film Lock, Stock and Two Smoking Barrels. Since then, he has appeared in many iconic films and series, including Gone in 60 Seconds, Snatch and X-Men: The Last Stand.

Jones also starred in the hit Netflix series: The Gentlemen (2024), reuniting with Guy Ritchie – the director of his first film debut.

Vinnie Jones’ farm

In 2024, the series ‘Vinnie Jones in the Country’ launched on Prime Video. It follows Vinnie’s his mission to renovate a 400-year-old farmhouse set on a 2,000-acre plot. The series captures his life on his Sussex farm, where he restores crumbling buildings and reflects on key moments in his life.

The option of vision correction surgery

As an actor, reading is a big part of Vinnie’s job – being handed scripts and following instructions on set became difficult as he struggled to see without glasses.

Vinnie is also known for his iconic flat cap, stating:

“Glasses don’t suit me. Hats are me. So finally, I’ve come [to get my surgery].”

Lens replacement surgery

Our optometrist recommended lens replacement surgery, where the natural lens of the eye is replaced with an artificial one.

Due to Vinnie’s individual needs, he chose to have a different lens in each eye.

He went for the TECNIS PureSee lens in his dominant eyes and the TECNIS Odyssey lens in his non-dominant eye. This combination provides the best of both worlds – sharp vision for reading, screens and driving, while reducing the chance of glare or halos at night.

This is particularly beneficial for life as an actor and for someone with a hands-on job – such as farming.

Outcomes of lens replacement surgery

Following his treatment, Jones has achieved better than 20/20 vision.

Delighted with the experience, Vinnie said,

“I’m just absolutely over the moon, I got to say – I’m chuffed.

It was incredible. No discomfort, no problem. I feel better inside – I don’t feel as anxious.”
