LASEK vision correction surgery – laser eye surgery options

LASEK stands for Laser Assisted Sub-Epithelial Keratectomy. It’s a good alternative for patients who are not suitable for LASIK. This may be patients who have a thinner cornea or have another medical condition that would make LASIK unsuitable.

How is LASEK carried out?

LASEK procedures only use one laser, rather than two (as you would see in LASIK).

An alcohol solution is used instead that allows access to the cornea and a protective lens is used after the procedure to protect the eye during healing.

LASEK can be enhanced with iDesign in the same way LASIK can – giving you the best possible outcome.

Is LASEK better than LASIK?

There is no ‘better’ option of laser eye surgery as it’s dependent on the patient’s needs and their lifestyle. Some patients are unsuitable for LASIK and will require LASEK instead, as previously mentioned.

With LASEK, there is a slight less chance of dry eye and sporting activities can be resumed sooner – since there’s no flap to heal.
