LASIK (Laser-Assisted In-Situ Keratomileusis) is a type of laser eye surgery.
It corrects common eye conditions including near-sightedness (myopia), far-sightedness (hyperopia) and astigmatism.
Am I suitable for LASIK?
LASIK is one of the most performed laser eye surgeries used to correct refractive errors. There are several factors that determine suitability, but generally you must:
- Be 18 years old or older
- Have a stable prescription
- Be in good general health
- Not be pregnant or breastfeeding
There are of course some circumstances which mean that patients may not be suitable for LASIK. Our team will be able to assess your suitability at your free consultation. You can also get a good indication of suitability here.
Benefits of LASIK eye surgery
There are many reasons why people choose LASIK. The benefits of this type of laser eye surgery include:
Quickness
LASIK is a fast procedure that is completed in around 10 minutes. The length of time the laser is on the eyes ranges from a couple of seconds to two minutes.
Recovery time of LASIK
Quick recovery is a major benefit of LASIK. Patients can expect to see results within 24 hours of surgery as 80 – 90% of healing takes place within the first day. Most people can go back to work after 2 days.
Full recovery can be expected in the following days to weeks, depending on your prescription.
Results
LASIK results can be seen very quickly, usually patients start to notice improvements within their eyesight within a day. At Optical Express the majority of patients achieve 20/20 vision or better following laser eye surgery – over 99% of our patients have these results.*
Living without glasses thanks to LASIK
The ultimate benefit of LASIK is the ability to live without the need for glasses or contact lenses.
Following laser eye surgery in addition to patients informing us they wish they had undergone vision correction surgery sooner; they tell us that they can:
- Play sports without having to think about your eyesight.
- Go swimming contact lens and glasses free – no need for prescription googles, daily contact lenses or blurry vision any longer!
- Read and watch TV with ease.
- Use non-prescription sunglasses.
LASIK and iDesign
Here at Optical Express we invest heavily in our technology to provide the best possible outcomes. All LASIK surgery procedures can be enhanced with iDesign – an innovative Johnson & Johnson technology.
iDesign creates a detailed 3D map of your eye, capturing over 1,200 microscopic eye prescription measurements. iDesign provides an eye prescription that is up to 25 time more accurate than the values glasses or contact lenses are prescribed to. Your eyes are unique to you, just like a fingerprint, and iDesign captures it all.
This detailed eye map allows for more accurate, precise treatment and means that people with more complex conditions can now be treated. Some people who have been told they’re unsuitable in the past, may now be suitable with the help of iDesign.
