Mr Mukhtar Bizrah is an experienced consultant ophthalmic surgeon who specialises in modern day cataract surgery, an identical surgical procedure to Refractive Lens Exchange. He is one of the few ophthalmic surgeons worldwide who is board certified in the UK, Canada, and Europe, receiving his specialist qualification from the Royal College of Ophthalmologists (FRCOphth) in 2016 and subsequently from the Royal College of Surgeons of Canada (FRCSC) and the European Board of Ophthalmology (FEBO) in 2018.
Obtaining his Bachelor of Medicine and Bachelor of Surgery (MBBS) degree from St George’s University of London in 2010, Mr Bizrah went on to receive specialist training at some of the world’s most renowned eye institutions, including the Western Eye Hospital and Moorfields Eye Hospital. He also completed an external fellowship in cornea and laser refractive surgery at the University of British Columbia, where he was awarded an Ophthalmology Teaching Award for his excellence in advanced cornea teaching.
Mr Bizrah currently holds a Consultant Cornea and Cataract Surgeon post at the Western Eye Hospital in London, specialising in advanced corneal diseases and cataracts. A strong advocate of medical education, he is also one of two co-founders of the London Eye Course, an ophthalmology revision course that is attended by trainees from across the globe.
Over the course of his academic and professional career, Mr Bizrah has co-authored over 15 peer-reviewed research articles and has presented his work at various national and international meetings and congresses, including the Royal College of Ophthalmologists (RCOphth) Annual Congress and the American Society of Cataract and Refractive Surgery (ASCRS) Annual Meeting. He has received over 25 awards and prizes on an international, national and regional level.
