Dr Husam Elghalhud

Dr Husam Elghalhud is an experienced Consultant Ophthalmologist with an impressive career spanning more than two decades. Specialising in cataract surgery, he has performed in excess of 10,000 cataract/IOL procedures and regularly audits his cases to ensure that his patients achieve the best possible outcomes.

Obtaining his Bachelor of Medicine and Surgery in 1998, Dr Elghalhud went on to specialise in ophthalmology and gained his Doctor of Medicine (MD) degree in 2007. Developing a keen interest in the treatment of cataracts, he completed a postgraduate diploma in Cataract and Refractive Surgery from Ulster University as well as a fellowship in Cataract and Anterior Segment at the prestigious Queen Victoria Hospital in West Sussex before starting to practice as a Consultant Ophthalmologist at the Pennine Acute Trust in Manchester.

Dr Elghalhud has gained a wealth of management and teaching experience over the course of his career. He has held many lead positions throughout his career including the Medical Retina, Theatre, and Audit Lead at the Pennine Acute Trust and acts as an undergraduate supervisor for 5th year ophthalmology students at Manchester University.

Considered an expert in the medical retina field, Dr Elghalhud has been involved in various research projects and has co-authored poster presentations and publications in esteemed journals such as BMC Ophthalmology.
