Optical Express sponsors Radio Clyde Wedding Competition

In February 2010, Optical Express sponsored the Clyde 1 Wedding promotion, providing both the winning bride and groom with £150 vouchers for designer sunglasses. The vouchers, which the lucky couple can redeem at any Optical Express location, are part of an exciting package of wedding-related prizes, designed to equip the winners with everything they need to plan their dream wedding. With any luck, the couple will be able to sport their new frames on a sunny honeymoon, regardless of whether they’ll be hitting the slopes or the surf.

Radio Clyde Wedding CompetitionIn order to enter the competition, couples were instructed to upload videos to clyde1.com demonstrating why they should be the winners of the Clyde 1 Wedding. For a week, listeners viewed videos online and voted for their favourites. At the end of the week, the top three couples were announced on air, and invited to Radio Clyde to appear on Bowie at Breakfast. During this time, the winning couple, Paul Glen and Linzi Barlow, was revealed. The winners were the couple that received the largest amount of votes for their video.

Paul and Linzi's winning video was a straightforward and heartfelt plea from the couple for votes. Seated side by side, the two described their courtship, relationship, and two young daughters, who were also featured. Rod Stewart’s Have I Told you Lately provided the soundtrack for the slideshow portion of the video.

The couple, based out of Milton, Dumbarton, have been together for six years, and live with their daughters in Linzi’s parents’ place while they save for a house of their own. In order to win the competition, the two produced leaflets soliciting votes and stood outside of ASDA in Dumbarton handing them out to shoppers.

Radio Clyde Wedding CompetitionThe winners’ fantastic prize package included venue hire, food and drinks, dresses for the bride, bridesmaids and mother of the bride, kilt for the groom and groomsmen, chauffeur hire, wedding cake, wedding photography, stag/hen parties, teeth whitening, flowers, and stationary, in addition to the designer sunglasses provided by Optical Express.

"Sunglasses may not seem like an intuitive part of a wedding package," said Joanna Patterson, Marketing Assistant for Optical Express. "But as both a wedding and honeymoon accessory, what better way to both polish off your look and protect your eyes than with a pair of designer shades?"

As well as providing the winners with vouchers, Optical Express also donated vouchers for the runners up.
