Laser Eye Surgery Reviews and Testimonials

LASIK review by Robert Weatherall
A few years ago, lasers seemed to belong to the world of science fiction, but today they are used in all sorts of medical operations, from heart surgery and hair removal to correcting vision.
Anyone who wears spectacles will know how annoying life can be, for example, when it is raining you can’t see clearly or they steam up with condensation walking out of a cold winter night into a warm pub.
Contact lenses solve some of these problems and allow you to take part in contact sports. However, even they have their drawbacks. You can’t swim in a pool or the sea on holiday and they can only be tolerated for a limited number of hours each day.
After speaking to friends who had undergone laser surgery without any regrets I booked a consultation.
This involved a series of tests to examine the health of my eye, including the thickness of the cornea, the eye pressure, and a detailed measurement of my eyeball surface.
To make sure I was a suitable candidate for surgery I had a one-to-one interview with a trained adviser who answered all of my questions. On the day of my procedure, a few of the earlier tests were repeated to make sure all my measurements were unaltered. After a short wait, I was called through to the operating room, where I sat back on a very comfortable chair.
I can’t have been in the operating room for any more than five minutes, and most of that time was taken up with cleaning my eyes and administering eye drops to anaesthetise my eyes and prevent the body’s natural blink reflex.
The actual firing of the laser to reshape my corneas lasted only a few seconds. I naively had expected to see a bolt of red light fire down from the laser above me.
What actually happened was that I was told to relax and look at small orange light above me. The process took about 20 seconds per eye. That was it.
Life-enhancing surgery in the time it takes to make a cup of tea.
After that I was given instructions on how and when to administer antibiotic and anti-inflammatory eye drops, and I was free to go.
As soon as I got home I closed the curtains and went to bed for three hours. When I woke up I could not only see the light switch on the other side of the room, but the head of each screw holding it into the wall.
The vision I had gained not only equaled the level I had with glasses or contact lenses, it far surpassed it.
It has now been more than two weeks since my surgery. I had check-ups at 24 hours and one week after the procedure and both eyes are healing well.
Waking up and being able to see clearly from the moment my eyes open is still a novelty. Being able to take a shower without having to fumble for the soap when I drop it is another bonus. I can walk into a pub and spot friends sitting at the other side of the bar.
Basically, I can do all the things lots of people take for granted and it’s all thanks to sitting under a little laser for a few seconds.
