Laser Eye Surgery Photos

From consultation to aftercare, we want the laser eye surgery process to be easy and straightforward. To give you an idea of what to expect and help you to visualise the entire experience, we’ve taken a series of photographs highlighting each step of the process.

Laser Eye Surgery Consultation Day

Your first step in changing your vision for life is booking a consultation at any of our consultation clinics across the UK and Europe. As a leading provider of laser eye surgery in the UK and Europe, our network of clinics are conveniently located to make it easy for you to come in for a FREE consultation, any day of the week.

When you arrive for your consultation, you will be greeted by a member of staff, who will sign you in and provide you with a few forms to fill out before your consultation in one of our comfortable waiting areas.

Before meeting with one of our Optometrists, your laser counsellor will conduct a number of tests using our state-of-the-art technology to make sure that you are suitable for laser eye surgery. The VISX WaveScan machine is used to create a detailed map and accurately measure imperfections of your eyes.

Next, the Pentacam is used to evaluate the corneal topography of your eyes. Each of our consultation clinics is equipped with a Pentacam, a fact that distinguishes Optical Express from other providers.

Finally, an instrument known as a tonometer measures the intraocular pressure of your eyes.

After your eyes have been thoroughly mapped and assessed for suitability, you will meet with your fully qualified laser eye surgery Optometrist. The Optometrist will conduct a number of eye tests, and speak with you about the treatment(s) that you are suitable for. If you have any questions or concerns that you would like to bring up with your Optometrist, this is a perfect time to do so.

Once you have finished speaking with your Optometrist, you will meet with your laser counsellor once again, and work with them to find a laser eye surgery appointment time that is convenient for you. This is also your chance to discuss our prices and finance options, such as interest-free credit. Your laser counsellor should also be able to answer any remaining questions that you have regarding the procedure and aftercare programme.

Laser Eye Surgery Day

It is good to plan to arrive early on surgery day, so you will be relaxed and ready for your life-changing treatment.

Before you go into surgery, you will meet with your Ophthalmic Surgeon, who will examine your eyes to make sure that they are healthy, and talk you through the process one final time. You have the opportunity to ask any questions at this stage.

You will also meet with one of your Refractive Nurses, who will give you the eye drops that you will be using after surgery, and explain how you should be using them. The nurse will also give you a few tips on what to expect over the next few days as your eyes are healing, so nothing comes as a surprise after surgery.

The surgery team will help you settle into the surgery room, and make sure that you are comfortable.

Your Refractive Nurses and Ophthalmic Surgeon will spend a few minutes preparing while you relax and become comfortable with the surgery room. You will have already been thoroughly briefed on what is going to happen, so there is no need to be nervous!

Your actual laser eye surgery will typically take less than 60 seconds per eye, as your Ophthalmic Surgeon uses our state-of-the-art VISX lasers to correct your refractive error.

Immediately after undergoing LASIK, you will be amazed to see clearly for the first time without glasses or contact lenses. This is one of the most exciting moments for many of our patients.

After Laser Eye Surgery

Following your laser eye surgery, we will invite you to come in for a number of post-operative appointments, as part of our comprehensive aftercare programme. We will monitor your vision as well as the health of your eyes, to make sure that you receive the best possible visual outcome.

We will also ask you to fill out our Patient Experience Questionnaire, so that we can get your feedback on how we are doing. We welcome your feedback at every step of the way, as high-quality patient care is extremely important to us.

I previously used the Nidek system but found that the results were less than optimal in many patients. Since using the STAR S4 IR™ Excimer Laser System at Optical Express, I say with confidence that this technology is the best and out-performs any other system, including the Nidek. The results are phenomenal.
