Determining whether you're suitable for corrective laser eye surgery
If you need laser vision correction to see things clearly at a distance, you are short sighted. Without glasses or contact lenses your vision is blurred.
Long Sight (Hyperopia)
If you need corrective laser eye surgery to read or see things close up, you are long sighted. Depending on your age, you may have problems focusing on distant objects too.
Astigmatism
Astigmatism occurs most commonly where the cornea is oval like a rugby ball instead of spherical like a football. Most astigmatic corneas have two curves; a steeper curve and a flatter curve. This causes light to focus at more than one point in the eye resulting in blurred vision. Many long and short sighted people often have a degree of astigmatism.
Reading glasses (presbyopia) and corrective laser eye surgery
Most people will require reading glasses in their 40s and 50s - whether they have had corrective laser eye surgery or not - as the natural lens can no longer alter its focus from distance to near. This can even happen to people who have never had to wear glasses before and this form of presbyopia should not be confused with long-sightedness.
At Optical Express, we will soon commence corrective laser eye surgery treatments to eliminate the need for reading glasses. Due to a restricted prescription range, this will initially only be available to a small percentage of people who need reading glasses.
If you'd like to assess your suitability for corrective laser eye surgery for presbyopia, contact Optical Express today. We may be able to offer you this or an alternative solution, such as intraocular lens implants.
