Understanding your Eyesight
Your eyesight can be affected in a variety of different ways, sometimes related to age or the shape of your eyeball. Almost all conditions are treatable to some degree, with some conditions the earlier they are detected the easier they are to treat.
Common Eye Conditions:
If you need vision correction to see things clearly at a distance, you are short sighted.
If you need vision correction to read or see things close up, you are long sighted.
Astigmatism is most commonly where the cornea is oval like a rugby ball instead of spherical like a football, resulting in blurred vision.
Presbyopia describes the condition where the eye exhibits a progressively diminished ability to focus on near objects with age.
Glaucoma is the name given to a group of conditions in which the optic nerve suffers a characteristic form of damage at the back of the eye.
Macular degeneration is a medical condition of older adults which results in a loss of vision in the center of the visual field (the macula) because of damage to the retina.
A cataract is a lens that has become cloudy, causing blurred eye sight.
