Contact lens tips
The Do's
- Attend regular after-care check-ups and eye examinations.
- Always wash and rinse your hands before handling your contact lenses. Dry with a lint free towel.
- Clean, rinse and disinfect your lenses after each use - except Daily Disposable lenses which must be discarded after each wear.
- Use fresh solutions daily.
- Air-dry your storage case when lenses are being worn.
- Carry a lens case containing fresh solution at all times.
- Replace your lens case every month.
- Keep an up to date pair of glasses as a back-up.
- Put your lenses in before applying make-up.
- Avoid hairspray as it can stick to the surface of your lenses.
The Don'ts
- NEVER use tap water to rinse your lenses or lens case.
- NEVER wet your lenses with saliva.
- Don't use your lenses whilst swimming. If you need lenses for swimming use daily disposables and goggles and discard the lenses immediately after swimming.
- Don't wear your lenses when showering or in a sauna or hot tub.
- Don't re-use solutions.
- Don't sleep in your lenses unless they are designed for this purpose.
- Don't re-use daily disposable lenses.
- Don't handle lenses after handling onions or chilies until you have washed your hands.
- Don't wear torn or damaged contact lenses.
- Don't wear contact lenses if your eyes feel sore.
- Don't wear lenses beyond their replacement date.
Ask yourself three key questions when wearing your contact lenses
- Do my eyes look ok? - No redness.
- Do my eyes feel ok? - No discomfort.
- Is my vision ok? - No unusual blurriness.
If in doubt take them out!
