BSc (Hons)
Raymond graduated with BSc (Hons) in Ophthalmic Optics in 1983 and completed his GOC registration the following year.
He began his optometry career as a community optometrist for 10 years which enabled him to gain a wide range of experience including
spectacles, contact lens fitting, domiciliary eye care in Care Homes,
hospitals and residential settings as well as general eye care to all ages.
In the mid-90s Raymond joined The Eye Clinic (now Optical Express)
and his career developed to encompass laser refractive surgery. Optical Express acquired The Eye Clinic on 2002 and Raymond gained the opportunity to not only develop his refractive surgery experience but also to learn about cataract and intraocular lens surgery.
Raymond’s career, therefore, has witnessed the development of modern refractive surgery from whole lens and extra-capsular techniques to the latest and safest precision procedures practised by Optical Express.
Raymond has also been an examiner with the College of Optometrists and a Pre-Registration student supervisor. He gained Post-Graduate Diplomas from City University in Contact Lens Fitting, Ocular Therapeutics and Glaucoma. He has also gained Independent Prescriber qualification which allows him to manage many eye conditions at a community level with less need to refer patients to visit an eye Doctor at the hospital.
Raymond is based in Inverness but also attends clinics in Perth, Dundee and Aberdeen.
